Reading Kubernetes probe failures as separate signals

Study startup, readiness, and liveness failures without one health score.

Startup, readiness, and liveness probes trigger different actions. Readiness can remove a pod from service without restarting it. Repeated liveness failure can restart the container.

Kubernetes documentation defines probe types and configuration fields. It does not prescribe correct thresholds for a particular workload.

Methodology: use an isolated namespace and synthetic service with controllable startup, dependency, and deadlock states. Record configuration, container start, probe results, endpoint membership, restart count, termination reason, and recovery. Change one condition per run.

Scope and inference boundaries: the test shows how the sampled cluster and workload respond. It cannot predict production traffic impact, prove application correctness, or set a general probe standard.

Limitations: node pressure, image pulls, sidecars, service meshes, and control-plane delays affect timing. Publish versions and failed runs. Platform owners approve live settings and rollout.
